Van Gogh for my birthday

June 17, 2021

For my birthday I wanted to take a break from caregiving. I bought tickets to see the Van Gogh immersive experience in Miami. I was able to get lost, with my friends, in a world of vivid colors and changing images, beautiful music. I was a sunflower. I walked down the streets of Paris to the cafe under the starry, starry night. I imagined myself jumping into the haystacks. And when I got out into the bright rain soaked Florida day, a text was flashing from my mother with a picture of my father on the floor in his underwear because he had slid off the bottom of his recliner again. But this happened at 3 a.m. Mom sent it to me in the middle of my birthday celebration. Way to go to bum me out.

But I didn’t let it get me down. We went out to eat some really cool “survival” food at a new restaurant with similar theme. The food was amazing. And different. And the people were nice and attentive to my birthday. My friends were great. We drank champagne in the afternoon.

I took care of myself for my birthday and I am proud of that.
